Lys Beauty Clean Makeup

Dear Friends,

It is very obvious I enjoy makeup! They enhance our natural beauty and gives us what we need when we need it. Although, I have to tread carefully regarding base products such as foundations, blushes, bronzers, and what not. It’s even difficult to find a clean beauty product that does not aggravate my acne prone skin as most can be coconut based heavy.

I’ve tried many, and some kind of worked and some made me regret even trying it. Any hassle with acne is a huge tipping point for me to stop using it. I have the kind of skin that gets angry, lol and will leave blemishes for months ahead.

Fast forward to March of 2021, a new clean beauty called LYS beauty emerged and I found it just in time before it’s released. I was in hiatus from Instagram for six months and the first beauty thing I see is… a clean beauty! LYS stands for Love YourSelf. To me, it gives a message to remind us to love who we are and how we were created. Choose to use clean ingredients that our skin loves as opposed to choosing mainstream products that are mainly for profit. At least that is how I see it.

The first thing that you can tell about this brand is that everything is shaped as a triangle. From a market full of circles and squares, this is a nice change. It definitely makes them stand out. No one has to even read the brand on the makeup, just simply see the shape. Hey, that’s LYS!

From the brand, I chose five items out of six. Primer, foundation, setting powder, bronzer, and a blush. There is a lip oil as well but I omitted that since my lips have been extremely reactive to a lip balm that destroyed my lips. *cries* I would love to try everything, but I love myself to put myself through that lol. Love yourself!

Let’s start with these two. The LYS Beauty primer is a serum, but it is also a gripping primer. I’m not a primer person as I really don’t like them at all and don’t like too many things on my face. I especially don’t prefer anything extra that doesn’t benefit really. I’ve always struggled with them! The primer itself has great ingredients. The initial feeling is sticky, but spreads easily on the skin. You will feel tackiness afterwards as it is a “gripping” primer, but wait a few minutes, it will dry down.

Here’s the thing. This primer and the foundation does not work on my skin. It probably doesn’t mix well with my moisturizer/spf or something when added with the foundation. It always ends up pilling and it looks super weird on my skin. Since I’m not going to experiment on what will work or not with the primer, I’ve come to decide that I won’t use primer with foundation! Like I said, I’m soooo not a primer person and this has proved it. Using the primer by itself is very nice, though! I’ve just been using it on days I’m not wearing makeup. The ingredients are worth it for me to keep!

Holy grail of foundations on my book. This LYS Beauty Serum Foundation when applied by itself without primer… is amazing! I LOVE how my skin looks with this. It applies kind of like a “lotion” as it is a serum based foundation, but once you’re done… wow! It’s marketed as a light to medium coverage, but I think it is a medium to full for me… without the cakey feeling or look! It covers easily and without effort.

I got the shade MG5 and it is just a shade too dark, it will work in the summer but I could’ve gotten just the MG2 and bronze up during the warmer months. Oh well, though! I might even snag the MG2 during Sephora’s spring sale lol. Yes, I love this foundation THIS much.

I am a turmeric person. I eat it, I use face masks with this ingredient, I even create a concoction of a diy face mask using turmeric, and iiiiiiii was looking true and through for a foundation that has IT in it. So when LYS created it, duh I’m going to try it. Read through the ingredients on their website to see the beneficial skin ingredients. Oh, and if you’re wondering, I’ve been wearing this foundation for more than a week and my skin still looks great without angry acne showing up!

Next are these three triangles! It is a matte bronzer, a setting powder, and a cream blush. The one on the far right is the cream blush. Can you tell the slight difference in the packaging color? It’s a little bit more “matte” hehe. I noticed it when I was doing the unboxing!

I’m a talc-free lady. My eyelids seem to not care about talc and it never reacts, so eyeshadows never cause problems but apparently my face hates talc! In a matter of days, I will get clogged pores especially on the cheek areas. Not a battle I’m willing to fight! It’s one reason why I don’t own any pressed setting powders. They are all talc based and the ones that aren’t are loose powders. Ugh. This bronzer and the setting powder from the brand are both talc free powders. I feel so loved that they thought about people like me! I LOVE that.

I chose the shade Harmony for the No Limits Matte Bronzer which is targeted for medium skin. It’s a true neutral shade which allows you to “brontour” You know, bronze and contour at the same time. It’s not gray based, and it isn’t super warm. Just the perfect natural shade in the middle of the warmth or lack of warmth spectrum.

The Triple Fix Translucent Setting Powder shade I chose is brilliance which is a banana shade. It’s yellow based so your under eye appears brighter and makes you look more awake. Even better, it is a pressed powder. I can literally bring it everywhere and don’t have to worry about mess!

Finally, the Higher Standard Cream Blush I chose is the confident shade. It is a pink cinnamon color and it’s extremely beautiful! It’s pinky, but warm and it compliments my olive based undertone. I can apply with brush or with my fingers. I seem to like applying it with my fingers, though!

From left to right: Confident, Harmony, Brilliance, and MG5!

Here are some comparisons to some makeup I have. Can you just assume I love blushes in this shade? It’s basically different shades of the same shade. LOL! Holy moly. Okay…

ILIA Lady Bird is the closest, but it is a little more cool compared to LYS Confident

Cover FX warm honey is just lighter overall and seems like it would be more peachy compared to other two but it’s definitely another pink cinnamony shade in a way lighter shade. This shade is described as a bronzed rose from Cover FX.

The bronzers literally looks all the same and it is just the color I choose for my skin tone! I’m not a person who needs a billion bronzers, I picked this up because the other bronzers are basically eh… expired. Lawless Golden Hour being the oldest one from 2017 that I just have for decor haha and Cover FX Sunkissed Bronze from 2019! Literally time to stop using that one as well. Seems like two years is the max for me and that requires frequent cleaning of brushes!

The foundation shade is not very noticeable but it is darker than my skin tone and a bit warm as you can see above on the thumbnail of the video. Paired with concealers, it evens out a bit better but you can tell from my neck that it’s different haha! From everything I’ve talked about today… the foundation is my favorite and the least is the primer. The compacts are even in my book and I can’t even rate them higher or lower than the other. They’re just all around amazing and even better is that they are talc-free! I

I love brands like this and I love that LYS thinks of people like me. Watch the video above to see a closer look of the makeup, unboxing, swatches, and a demonstration of the application of the products! Have you tried this brand yet? Thanks so much for hearing from me! I’ll see you soon on my next post!
