We have been so unsure of what the start of school this Fall of 2020 will bring since the start of Summer earlier this year. Will the kids go back to school in person or will it be distance learning again? For us… it’s distance learning. My oldest girl is in 6th grade (middle school, whoa!) I already know it’s going to be a lot of work for her and having school at home needs a lot of structure and organizing.
We decided to turn her lego corner into a lounge area with our favorite home decor items from MyGift and other shops! This turned out to be such a nice multi-purpose spot. It’s her at-home school, drawing corner, relaxing spot, play area, and even a guest bed. This post is to share how to make your teen’s distance learning at home enjoyable, but let’s be real… Us grown ups can use this area, too for our own chill spot. So ladies, if you’re looking for a decor idea for your personal relaxing area, this is helpful for you, too!
This is a twin size foam mattress! It’s light enough to be moved anywhere, but thick enough to provide comfort. At first we were looking at chaises, but… this foam bed is much better. There’s more room to relax or work however you want, and the mattress works as a guest bed if a friend sleeps over! We found majority of the throw pillows from HomeGoods because they just have the best price. I saw similar items from Target and it was more expensive. I love Target, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes the prices for throw pillows are more? I guess it just depends but for example, the herringbone white pillow was only $9.99 from HomeGoods. Such DEALS!
Some throw pillows were from Hobby Lobby and if you go on the right day, you’ll get discounts, too. You know how they always cycle discount themes every week. Same goes for the wall decors, this “She’s Going Places” map wall decor in blush and gold is SO pretty and nice. My daughter chose this and we got it for 50% off!
The floating shelves are so NICE! This adds such a boho flair for this corner, which is actually what we were going for. This comes in a two set like you see here, and has different color choices such as brown, dark gray, white, and natural wood. It looks like it’s two different colors in the photos, but I chalk it up to my flash and the darker lighting on the left side.
The pearl plants that you see on the floating shelves also comes in a two set. The other one I installed it on the left side of the photo using wall hooks! The pearl plants does come with brown strings to hang them with, but I didn’t really like to use it with that. It didn’t look right! Besides, it looks so beautiful on the shelves.
This corner was nice before, but it’s even more beautiful now that we added these string lights! It completes the whole look and the lights can even dim or change. I found it from amazon, of course! These are super long, so if your area is bigger, it will definitely have the length you need. It comes with a remote to easily turn on, off, and change the eight different lighting modes it has. My favorite is just the plain normal non crazy blinking ones honestly. Sometimes I’m like WHOAH TOO MUCH, but it will be fun for Christmas!
The love decor in the gold makes everything look so feminine and lovely here. We found this long ago and never found the perfect place for it until now. I guess good things takes time, right? Hobby Lobby is the best for the random things!
The boho wall hanging that you see here is an Etsy find! These are made from cotton and home made with love from Radiant Life shop by Victoria. It comes in four different colors like orange which is this one, yellow, pink, and lavender. These are so gorgeous and very chic!
ORGANIZATION FOR DISTANCE LEARNING
Alright, parents. If you were searching the web for lounge area for kids and distance learning… this is the part! My daughter started middle school this fall and since it’s school at home, she needs her own spot for her schooling. All the zooms, different teachers, and what not… this helps give her the privacy, quiet, and work area she needs.
By the way, this laptop shaped chalk board is so cool! This does come with 4 four chalks, but I think i’m going to buy her the liquid chalk markers since it’s a lot cleaner. This board will be used to practice math problems without using extra paper or just for fun like drawing and playing games with lil’ sis such as tic tac toe, hangman, etc.
When you close it, you can also use it as a lap table, hehe. Whenever she’s doing zoom, or want to watch a tv show… you can use it this way, too. Don’t you love multi-use items?
This three tiered document tray is definitely a must have to organize her things. The top tier is used to store her school ipad, glasses, and whatever random things she wants to store there. The middle is for papers, and the last is where she puts her chalkboard. This comes in two colors of this beige one and vintage white!
You can’t have a “school at home” without pencil holder, right? This one is a nice size since she has a lot more room left. It is also revolving! We put the remote for the light in the small front storage there and the other four are for pencils, pens, gel pens, markers, erasers, etc.
Having a lap desk is a must, too! This one is also from amazon and comes in eight different designs. I chose the gold quatrefoil because it matches her theme for this area. It also has a little slot for a phone as well.
The school corner just turned into an arts corner! My daughter is a little artist and loves to draw. I am amazed at how well she can draw and create. Anyway, she’s just one of those people that prefers to create in an area like this as opposed to a desk. Oh by the way, the mason glass that you see there with a handle AND a straw… WOOH! It comes in a set of six and a tray to put them in. Just check it out here, no go ahead, click it! It comes in different colors as well.
This would be so nice for girls day and make your own cocktails and stuff. Oops, I forgot what this post is for… oh yeah, kids distance learning corner, kids rooms… Well, this is also great because it has a lid and a handle so no spills for kids and tweenies. That round wooden thing that you see there, I found it from home goods. This specific one was $7.99, but there were other sizes, different styles and features for $9.99, and even $12.99.
My daughter is also a big reader. She loves books and has so many books she loves to read over and over. I can’t ever re-read books… but this girl, yep. This wicker basket is from HomeGoods and it’s such a nice size to store books!
Right now, she’s reading Sailor Moon manga and the School of Good & Evil series so that’s why it’s set apart from the wicker basket books lol. She also has her devotional here, too. Jesus Calling! It looks pretty nice in this book/magazine/file holder. This is actually shaped as a triangle, comes in a 3 or 9 slot, and a rose gold tone. This three slot one works better for her because it can fit on the wooden round thingy.

Well, that’s it, folks! I hope you enjoyed this lounge area decor ideas. I think it’s such a lovely corner and I know you and your daughter would love it! I’m so happy with how well this turned out and so far, it’s working great for its purpose. Thank you so much for visiting my post and I’ll see you on the next one!
