Let’s talk booster seats! Which kind do you use for your kids? We used the backless type for a while, and we may be late…but better late than never. When we made the switch, my kids reaction and their review are very positive which makes me a happy mama. I’m so happy to share our newest finds! It is the Diono booster seat called the Monterey XT. We chose the color Heather to somewhat match the gray interior of our car.

I love this color. There’s something about heather gray and black that is just so nice to look at. The red pops of color add a little fun, too! The head protection is so important in car seats and not only that, it is multi-purpose as a headrest pillow so your child can fall asleep comfortably! This seat also has two arm rests and two cup holders. It also has a latch system!
Adjustable Height & Width
Let’s get back to the headrest for a second! Besides all the safety and comfort factors… these are also adjustable. For my son, I only adjusted it a little bit since he is still a cute little shorty! I did have to adjust my daughter’s because she’s getting taller and taller each day. I love knowing that through all their growth spurts, they can stick to this booster for as long as they can.
To adjust the headrest position, you simply press the top red one and pull up. But wait, did you know that you can also adjust the width? Made for all builds, simply use the dial to adjust.
Unboxing & How-To Demo
For a visual how-to of this booster seat, watch the video above! You’ll see an unboxing of how the product will arrive in your doorstep, how to put the seat together, locating the instruction manual, more in-depth how-to’s and features of the seat, and demo of my kids using the seat!
In the video, you’ll also see that on Ezekiel’s side, I did put a protective mat under the seat and it is called the Ultra Mat. I cannot believe how thick it is and I seriously need TWO more for my daughters’ seats.
Do you see why I love the gray so much? It looks beautiful in the car! I love how much this booster gives so much protection, seriously… such a happy mama! We drive a suburban, and they sit in the back row so that means they are extremely out of my reach. Kids get hungry, thirsty, bored, need lotion, lip balm, etc and there is no way I can reach back there to give them anything.
Travel Pal comes to the rescue and it is perfect to place in between their seats. In here, I store:
- ZoLi Sumo snack tower for their snacks
- Pencils, pens, erasers
- More snacks…lol
I am so, so, so happy that we were finally able to try these seats out. I never would’ve thought about trying the booster seats with the backrest if it wasn’t for our little photoshoot with Diono. As soon as my daughter Keilani sat on the Monterey… she kept telling me how comfortable it was and that she wishes she had one. Thank you to the Diono Fairies, her wish came true and I know for sure that when Mileina grows out of her carseat, I’m getting this one for her, too!

Hi! Just got my diono Monterey xt and it’s so nice! But when my son went to test it in the living room the back support fell back when he leaned back, is this how yours is too? Thx!
Like the back support came off the bottom seat? The back support is suppose to make like a “click” sound when you attach it to the seat, then you pull it up. I don’t remember it falling back when my kids used it… hmm!
