Kids Devotional + Room Decor

HELP YOUR KIDS TO THINK BEFORE THEY SPEAK WITH A SIMPLE FELT LETTER BOARD IN THEIR ROOM & A DEVOTIONAL BOOK JUST FOR KIDS. THIS POST CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS.

As a parent, we know and understand that little children will often speak out of turn due to their immediate reaction towards certain things. We often do it ourselves when our patience flies out the door. Sometimes I look back in my. own childhood and remember certain disciplinary actions from my own parents that still stands true today and will stand in generations to come. Not all disciplinary practices only happen after a mishap, but can be prevented and taught by taking the time each day to read a good word. I have always been a reader as a young girl and I believe that reading is the most important way to instill messages in our children’s thought process. Reading takes time and effort. It also requires a long attention span that will help with discipline and patience.

Children love to see everything visually in the most colorful way. That is why I love having home decoration that is not only beautiful to look at, but they also share a great message. My son has his own framed photo of the same message that you see here, but I also wanted my oldest daughter to have this available in her own room. While I don’t have the exact duplicate as the one my son has, I decided that this felt board would also be another perfect way. I love how this goes so well in her reading corner in her room. My daughter looks over the books I own, and sometimes she will pick out ones that interest her. The pink book that is in the book organizer is titled “Footprints” and it was my very first devotional book when I became a Christian. She reads over the pages eagerly, but I thought it would be more beneficial if she has her own age appropriate devotional.

This one is very simple and to the point just like most devotionals. It is called ‘Jesus Calling’ by Sarah Young. I love that the children’s books are so colorful! Even though this book has its own little bookmark, the pages are dated individually. One thing I love about this particular devotional is that it is written in a way that God is speaking to them. I love reading some of these with her because while I’m an adult, It gives me peace knowing that this is how God speaks to me whenever I pray to Him. One thing I want her to always know is that she is His daughter who is ‘more precious than rubies’, Proverbs 3:15 . Can you imagine the security of love it will give her now and unto her teenage years?

While reading instills knowledge in so many ways, I know it is one important factor to shape the way our kids think. In every story, there is a lesson to be learned and in those stories there is a hero and an enemy. I know that my children understand between the good and bad, but there are a lot of grey areas in life and sometimes those grey areas are considered normal or acceptable while they are actually not. It is easy or even justified to respond with anger or disappointment, but it takes great courage to be strong and to take a step back and think before they speak. Let’s take the time to help create leaders in our  generation so that they may have the courage to stand up for what is right, to be silent and strong when they’re needed even if it is a difficult thing to do.

This is such a creative andfin DIY. I’m going to make this with my girls (so we can talk about it while it’s being made) and then put it in their room as a reminder.

It’s so important to get our kids grounded in daily devotional habits so they can draw closer to God and remember who He is when life gets tough.

I own some devotionals by Sarah Young, but did not realize that she made some for children. That is wonderful!
You are such a beautiful role model to your children in the faith, Livi.

I love this message – it’s so true and I wish more people took this to heart. I think getting young children involved in God is such a great way to teach them to be kind and to love one another. You have a beautiful family!
